Message from the Principal
Welcome to the Mount Isa Christian College web site and thank you for your interest in the school. Mount Isa Christian College is a small school, presently of around 70 students offering an educational service for children from Prep to Year 7. Since it was opened in 1981 the school has become a well established entity in the Mount Isa community. The school was established by the Mount Isa Assemblies of God Church to provide a distinctive choice of Christian education.
The school offers a broad educational programme based on curriculum developed by the Queensland Studies Authority. The distinctive approach of Mount Isa Christian College is that the students are taught from the perspective of Biblical truth. As the school's Vision Statement indicates, our aim is to build Christian character. In addition to the standard subjects the school's curriculum includes a comprehensive Christian Studies programme.
The school seeks to support Christian families by teaching Christian values and principles, a Biblical approach to discipline and the development of self-discipline. Students are taught to respect and serve others and to be aware of the needs within and beyond the school community. The children are taught by qualified, caring teachers, all of whom are committed Christians.
Thanks to a Commonwealth Government initiative, the school has a part-time chaplain. Our chaplain, Mrs Shelli Hobby, has a pastoral role to the whole school community, the children in particular. Our chaplain presents weekly chapel services and assists teachers with class devotions.
The school participates in community events such as the Mount Isa Rodeo Mardi Gras, Rock Pop Mime, the Mount Isa Show schools' display, Anzac Day and Remembrance Day. The upper primary students are able to participate in a weekly after school engineering club. To date they have been involved in building solar powered model boats and projects through the EngQuest competition.
